I thought long and hard about what my first rant should be about, and I landed on this.
I get vary angry at "Christians" who spout hate and selfishness, and it is NOT uncommon for one to do so.
In fact, those Holier-than-thou folk are usually the ones putting quotations around liberal-minded "Christians."
If you are against immigration in any way, you are not very Christian. You are selfish. Unless you are full blooded Native American, you are here as a RESULT of immigration. I'm sorry, but why is it ok for Europeans to be in this country, but not Hispanics? And if you DARE say, (and I've heard this argument) "Well, I mostly just have a problem with people who come here, who don't speak English." How many languages do you speak fluently? I'll bet the answer is one. English is NOT the national language of the United States. WE DO NOT HAVE AN OFFICIAL LANGUAGE... English is simply the most common, followed by Spanish: Learn it! It is no more their fault that they can't speak English and communicate with you than it is your fault that you can't speak Spanish to communicate with them, and you know what, they probably wouldn't want to talk to you anyway. I really hate people who make jokes about how they shouldn't have to "press 1 for English" --I believe a country song makes that comment as well. You should. If a company wants to have options in every fucking language in existence, GOOD. FOR. THEM. I think that all public, and government buildings should have at least a Spanish speaking employee.
(Side rant: I really get annoyed with people who assume that because you LOOK Hispanic, you must speak Spanish. I worked with a woman in the Deli who was from the Philippines, and on MORE THAN ONE occasion a manager came back to ask if she could help a Spanish-speaking customer, even after she had told them SEVERAL TIMES that she did not speak Spanish. I speak more Spanish than she does. Did I get asked? No, because I'm white.)
Secondly, Marriage is a religious bond between two people. THE GOVERNMENT SHOULD NOT RECOGNIZE ~ANY~ MARRIAGES. If you want the government to recognize you as a couple, get a Civil Union. We don't care about your marriage, or whatever rules you had to obey to get it. That's like asking the government to recognize your baptism, or circumcision.
Thirdly, according to the bible, it is not your place to judge others. You don't get to say who goes to hell. Stop telling people that they are damned. You want to preach, preach what Jesus told you to preach: L-O-V-E. If all anyone did in this world was love, all of our problems would be solved. There would be no war, everyone would get the same amount of food and benefits. If everyone loved everyone, everyone would be happy. Sure people would still get sick, but there would be an entire world full of people doing what they could to make you better.
Love is not Capitalism. Capitalism is not Love. Capitalism is NOT Christian.
If you are Christian, and you are against the Health Care bill.... die. How can anyone who is not an evil scrooge be against universal health care??? I just don't understand it. I really don't.
I recently got into a bit of a tiff with someone over the Go Green movement being a "false idol." If you don't "believe" in Global Warming, you're basically a child with his fingers in his ears going "lalalalala!" It's a fact. Global temperature: Going up. Everytime I hear someone, on a cold day, make the comment "so much for that 'Global Warming' eh?" I want to smack them. God gave you this Earth... don't you think he'd want you to take care of it? If you had a child, whom you had unconditional love for, and you built them this beautiful house, and they destroyed it...wouldn't you be a bit upset?
Jesus was Jewish, so stop hating on them.
Everyone has a right to whatever religion they choose, if any, to belong to. I honestly think that public high schools should have a "religious studies" class, where students are forced to learn about different beliefs, so they can make more decisions for them selves, and less just following what's been shoved down their throats all their lives. AND Creationism should be kept in said class, and out of the laboratory.
To those against fictional entertainment about witchcraft and what-not... (like HP and DnD) Really? Reeeeeally? Are you that insecure about your beliefs that you think a children's book, or a bored game could pull people away from it? Or do you think that witchcraft is like...real? Because (took a break to laugh for a moment) you. are. ridiculous.
Jesus was a Socialist, or would have been, if there was such a movement at the time.
The way our country is developing...and this might be my segue into my next rant... one day, corporations WILL run the country. I mean, they are already "people" with "rights" so why couldn't...say... Walmart, run for President? It's not that far off people, and I am being totally serious.
